We are Mike and Sarah Scholes, and after 23 years of serving in the United States Army, including ministry as a military chaplain, we never imagined we would find ourselves back in New York.
Yet, as our season with the Army drew to a close, we felt God calling us back. We didn’t fully understand why, but as we settled into Guilderland and enrolled our own teenagers in the public schools, His purpose began to unfold.
Through relationships with local students, we began to see a need that deeply burdened our hearts. Teenagers shared fears of going home, struggles with self-worth, and little connection with community.
We saw a longing for a safe place to belong, grow, and discover their purpose...and thus, The Fire Pit was born.
Our goal is to establish the first ever The Fire Pit for Guilderland High School Students right in the Guilderland Center Plaza on the corner of School Rd and Rt 146 (That's Walking Distance from the High School!)
Our hope is that through authentic relationships, trusted adults, and genuine connection; students will be seen, valued, and equipped for a brighter future.
